August 25, 1925 - March 5th, 2020
Passed away peacefully, on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at the age of 94, surrounded by the love of his family. Neil On Thursday, March, 5th, 2020, Neil MacLellan, loving husband, father of four children
and grandfather of eight, passed away at the age of 94.
Neil was born on August 26th, 1925 in St. John’s, Newfoundland to Neil and Elizabeth MacLellan. At age fifteen he graduated from Bishop’s College and began working at the Bank of Montreal in Newfoundland. He then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and trained as an air gunner. He moved to Ottawa where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce Degree at Carleton University in 1960. He went on to have a 45-year career with the Bank of Montreal. On May 5th, 1956, he married Helen Urquhart. They raised two daughters, Katherine and Liane, and two sons, Neil and Andrew. As a family they lived in Ottawa, Windsor, Mississauga and Cranbrook, B.C.
Neil had a deep faith, which inspired his love of life and family. Neil’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and watching his children and grandchildren grow. He had a passion for fishing, gardening and the outdoors and his faithful Scottish Terriers Jock, Fergus and Hamish. Some of his favourite times were summers up at the cottage where he could combine his favourite hobbies. These times were made all the more special because they were shared with his family.
He will be remembered as a true gentleman of the old-school, a man with a love of books
and crosswords, a seeker of knowledge, a great world traveller through his atlas and the
pages of National Geographic, as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Neil was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert, and his sister Margaret Ryan. He is survived by his wife Helen, his four children Katherine Walton (Douglas), Liane Cooke (Daniel), Neil MacLellan (Lisa), and Andrew MacLellan (Catherine) and his grandchildren Hilary, Sarah, Emily, Amy, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Matthew and Rachel, all of whom loved him dearly.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
